对比应该出现在起承转合处,对比实际上起到的作用是搭建图形的整体框架;

Writing Task 2

1) 题目和问题-要认清题目的要求和找出题目中想问的问题;

2) 介绍-这是用来表达文章的大意,如果要写的是一篇评论文,笔者的方向也要在这里表达出来;

3) 主体-如主体分为三段的话,通常前两段是观点和理由,后一段是用来平衡讨论的相反观点;

(Introduction)

(Body)

与介绍文一样,主体文每段的第一句都是用来说明整段的大意,之后的内容可用连接词(如However, Although, Notonly, Also, Even though, Consequently, In addition等等)或顺序词(Firstly, Secondly, Thirdly ...)

Many people…

Others…

Those who disagree believe that ... / may argue that ... /point out that ...

However, I strongly disagree ...

Nothing could be further from the truth (Strongdisagreement) because ...

In fact, ...

... for the following reasons: I find it hard to agree...

Nevertheless, I cannot agree ... (Mild disagreement)

Perhaps this is true, but it cannot be denied that ...

This is partly true, then again ... (Concessionaldisagreement)

(Conclusion)

(In general, To sum up, Toconclude, In conclusion等等)来串联整段。

IELTS Example Essay

Every generation, young and old, should be allowed freedom to deal with the breaking down of certain patterns and standards being handed down from the past. As individuals, young people are particularly keen to the need to end whatever tradition they think is unreasonable for the society. All rebellious minds think alike--tradition is a guide for the past but not a jailer for the future.

Too often young men and women are enthusiastic about the evolution of beliefs and practices of their society, and their behaviors tend to challenge a number of elements of tradition. For that matter, mental independence is required because without an amount of freedom, tradition would be only an explanation for acting in conformity without thinking independently.

Accordingly, young people ought not to be forced to express their new feelings in a mummified form, otherwise the evolution in tradition could not happen. The point is that not just because something is traditional, so there is reason enough to do it. It is good, however, for young people to continue a worthwhile tradition, and it is also good not to be captive of an unreasonable tradition which is not worth having. Although social bondage persists, it makes a difference if young people are permitted to think and act in such a way as different from that of a conservative mind in which the word 'tradition' means a shortcut to thinking or an excuse for acting.

Probably a society can only successfully function with traditional values--diverse customs, thoughts, lifestyles, religion, music, dance, arts and languages, among other things of culture. Young people had better learn that modern traditions are built on the past just as the past was built on the times that went before it. Traditions bring continuity to one's existence in a society, even though this sort of continuity is precisely what has been increasingly lost through modernity.

Thus, it behooves young individuals to preserve their traditions of value by safeguarding against the negative influence from various factors such as industrialization, globalization, and assimilation or marginalization of special cultural groups. It certainly makes patriotic sense that young people's love for traditions worth continuing always strengthens the well-being of the society and never weakens all that is meant to identify themselves with their country. Good tradition being a good guide, young people, however rebellious, should not be entirely negative about the past with all its enduring heritages and necessary evils.

In conclusion, since a modern society is not supposed to be a dead community, young people may behave freely in treating tradition as the living faith of the dead and not as the dead faith of the living. They should not believe in traditions simply because many beliefs and practices have been handed down for many generations, but should instead observe and analyze anything that agrees with reason and is conductive to the good and benefit of the society. It takes a lot of history to make a tradition, so the best of which must be accepted and lived up to, from generation to generation.

An increasing number of people are changing their careers during their working time. What causes this trend and is it a positive or negative development for society?

第一个理由肯定是为了挣取更高的工资,获得更好的发展机会;

其次,从心理上讲,很多年轻人愿意去尝试新工作,认为这样可以结识不同领域的朋友,增加人生体验;

Not long ago, most people would choose to stay on the same job for the entire life, but today young people prefer to try different things and hop from one job to another.

(2) stay on the same job

(3) hop from one job to another

In my view, there mainly are three reasons why young people are doing so. At the most basic level, young people find that frequent job changing can often bring them the pay rise they expect. My friend Edward is a perfect example. As a program designer, he has worked for three different companies in the past five years, and now he earns almost five times as much as he did in the first company. This would not have been possible if he had not been mobile enough. The second reason is that by doing different jobs or careers, young people can increase their work experience and eventually become more versatile. This may give them a competitive edge, especially in today’s job market where an all-round employee is always preferred. Finally, changing jobs frequently nowadays has been made possible by the booming service industry and rapidly developing information technology and transport.

(2) at the most basic level

(3) versatile 全能的

(4) give sb. a competitive edge

(5) booming

Needless to say, job-hopping may be a bad thing if it is not well-considered. Shifting from job to job may prove to be a waste of time and opportunity since this may easily make a person Jack of all trades and master of none. As we know, the person who can provide the most professional service for the company enjoys the best opportunity of promotion. However, if a person does not find the job he is doing interesting or fulfilling, then his change job could be a win-win strategy both for the companies and employees. For the companies, “new bloods” often mean stronger labor force and vitality of the staff. For the employees, a new job means a new opportunity.

(2)jack of all trades and master of none

(3)fulfilling

In light of the above discussion, I would conclude that no change of jobs is wasteful as long as it is carefully considered. Holding on to a job that we do not like is a crime against our precious life.

(2)in light of 依据

(3)hold on to...

Some people think young people are not suitable for important positions in the government, while other people think it is a good idea for young people to take on these positions. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

01

As we can see on television, the important positions in the government are often held by gray-haired menand women. While it is assumed by many that the elderly people are more experienced and capable, I would say that some important government positions should also be open to young people.

(3) assume

(4) capable

02

Undoubtedly, experience is of utmost importancefor many government positions. These positions have to deal with a great number of people every day and crisis may emergeany time. For example, a foreign affairs minister has to make quick responsesto the problems that may come from all over the world every minute. Without the rich experience collected from his long-time service in this field, it would be unlikely for him to fulfill his duties. Young people, therefore, are not really suitable for this type of government positions.

(2) of utmost importance 极其重要 (= extremely important)

(3) emerge 出现

(4) response 反应

03

However, young people should be given the opportunity to hold those government positions which call formore passion than experience. Young people who are more open-minded and receptiveto new idea than the elderly, are more likely to solve problems in an innovative way, and to put theiroriginalideas into action, which may lead to unexpected benefits. As far as I understand, the national ministry of education as well as the primary schools and middle schools should be led by young people who are more inspiringand innovating.

(2) call for 要求

(3) receptive 包容的

(4) innovative 革新的

(5) original

(6) inspiring

04

It is, therefore, difficult to draw a general conclusion about whether young people should hold important government positions. For some positions which are more experience-based, the elderly people are more suitable candidates, yet for other positions which require more passionate spirit than experience, young people can perhaps do a better job than their elderly counterparts.

(2) candidate 候选人

(3) ounterpart

Task:Many people fail to achieve a balance between work and the other parts of life. What causes the situation? How to overcome this problem?

Nowadays, there has been a heated social trend that the whole life of people tends to be surrounded by work, so that they are lack of time for the personal lives. In the following words, I will give possible relevant causes and solutions to this social issue.

This phenomenon stems from many causes, and the first one is about employment. In fact, limited job positions, in conjunction with the overpopulation and a declined economy, make the job competition increasingly fierce. For the security of jobs, all employees have to devote themselves into work to keep a good performance. Besides, working hard also represents their loyalty and values to the companies.

Another direct cause is driven by new technologies which serve a function of enhancing the working expectation among employees today. For example, the invention of electronic lights has made working at night available for workers, thus prolonging the work time. Similarly, the wide application of cell phones blurs the border between working and living. In leisure time of weekends and holidays, calls and messages from the companies, leaders of workplaces and clients frequently interrupt and even cancel the leisure plans of employees, as well as stealing their private time that could be spent on the family, children, and parties with friends.

In order to recover a balance between working and living, I think there should be combinative efforts of social laws, companies and individuals. Firstly, it is the responsibility of the government to strictly enact and carry out the laws of limiting the number of working hours in all positions of companies, which can ensure that employees have enough private time for leisure, exercise and family. Secondly, on the level of companies, they should provide life-long contracts, instead of temporary ones, to staff. Under a long-term security of employment, workers would get rid of the fear of losing jobs, and can devote themselves into working in moderation, rather than becoming workaholics. Lastly, employees should change a work-oriented lifestyle after a hard day at work, for example, ignoring emails, text messages and instructions sent from companies, which is a good way helping them to shift their concentration from working back to living.

Task: Young people are often influenced in their behaviors and situations by others in the same age. This is called “peer pressures”. Do the disadvantages outweigh the advantages?

Peer pressure refers to the influence exerted by a peer group in encouraging a person to change his or her attitudes, values, or behavior in order to conform to group norms. In my view, peers bring more negative influences on a youngster than the positive ones, and my reasons would be explored as below.

Individuality is removed. Actually, for the purpose of receiving the social acceptance, young people might consciously compel them to approve of and comply with ideas, views and behaviors of other peers, instead of obeying their inner hearts. One typical example is lifestyle. As living in groups, unconditionally catering to even-aged students and students around is the main way of young people to avoid being labeled as eccentrics, such as by blindly following their tastes of food and clothing, hairs, music and amusements like sheep.

The high vulnerability to peer pressure is a reason of youth violence and crimes. In fact, if companies have poor values and illegal behaviors, the youth would be brainwashed by the evil. For example, gravitating to young friends abusing alcohol or drugs, a youngster is very likely to try these new things, thus trapped in the addictions of unhealthy and unlawful habits. Similarly, in order to succumb to rules of a gang, a teenager would engage in social crimes, like thefts, school bullying, vandalism, arson and rape. Consequently, the ill influence from peers will ruin the life of youngsters.

Admittedly, to some extent, the influence of peers is valuable, because a moderate peer pressure can sharpen good qualities of the youth. For example, in school education, the pressure of classmates is a natural motivation for a young student to study hard. In addition, when a child knows his or her friends have a habit of reading books in library regularly, he or she will feel tempted to do so. Therefore, a positive impact of peers can help to keep a child on a right track.

In conclusion, risks from peer pressures are over the benefits. Although children can be driven by pressures of classmates to work hard in school education, the adverse effects of such pressure on depersonalizing teenagers and forming ill behaviors and illegal minds among them should never be underestimated.

When it comes to children education, parents usually expect too much for their children, and most of them let temper flare out of control by executing physical punishment to their children. Some people think this behavior it is necessary for children's self discipline and self reflection. However, others criticize it seriously because it is naturally violent. In my opinion, I am in favor of the latter view, and I will explore possible reasons as below.

On one hand, there are a lot of benefits of corporal punishment in moderation. Firstly, the threat of punishment gives children to think twice about the made up in their minds patterns of behavior whether the pattern is considered to be normal or deviant. Secondly, punishment disciplines children's hard-to-control ego. Keeping in mind so called "stick" restricts a child from being irresponsible and violent towards his/her family, friends, neighbors and just occasionally met people. Thirdly, punishment partially plays the part in creating a concept of respect in children. To be able to respect something, you have to learn how to love something and keep it safe. Being so carefree, children tend to forget to keep the toys safe or to put away the clothes or make the bed. The reminding of punishment is the first signal in their heads to fix the situations.

In spite of positive effect of punishment, negative ones always remain. Punishment is not the only and first means to teach children how to be a part of society. Side effect of the punishment can be low self-confidence in a child and consequently lack of motivation in studying, in having hobbies, in creating new games or activities. In many cases, this poor parenting skill can exert a bad impact on children by experience of serious reprocessing, with its evident contribution to children’s mental illness. Several studies showed that most frequent physical punishment with maltreatment maybe lead to depression, juvenile crimes and even suicide. What is more, Children might be afraid of the punishment so much that it prevents them from making new friends, sharing their ideas and being themselves after all.

In conclusion, I consider physical punishment should be applied in a very proper and cautious way, on which it can well correct children's misbehaviors and thoughts, as well as build up positive personalities like respectfulness, mindfulness and modesty. However, what its overuse come with is unacceptable, including child abuse, broken family ties, aggressive tempers and low self-esteem.

Task:The speeding up of life in areas such as travel and communications is negatively affecting the society at every level --- individual, national, and global. Do you agree or disagree?

Nowadays, modern technologies have sharply speeded up people’s traveling and communication. Some people argue that there are many negative results behind this fast-paced trend, personally, nationally, and globally. Personally, I strongly agree with this view, and my reasons will be explored as below.

Firstly, on the personal level, an accelerated life pace make individuals stressful, due to it breaks the balance between working and living. For example, airplanes, the fastest transportation nowadays, can largely shorten the time of people’s long-distant traveling, while its high efficiency also causes higher work expectancy and tighter work schedule. For example, in a single day, a manager of multi-national companies is asked to take plane to go for a meeting in another region and country far away in the morning, and fly back to the home at night. This fast and exhausting lifestyle not only damages people’s health, but also alienates them from families, because of the lack of time spent on exercise, rest, or dinners with spouse and children.

In addition, on the international level, fast systems of global transportation and communication worse the environment. For one thing, an increasing number of cross-border air flights mean more fossil oil is burned and more waste gas is emitted, such as smog. As a result, this kind of discharge further deteriorates the global warming. Similarly, for the purpose of building up a modern seamless communication system for cell phones and the Internet, new base stations are installed in mountains and forests, new cable ropes are buried under the seabed. These constructions make an overall destruction to the global ecosystem, thus leading to the extinction of species.

Finally, on the national level, the thriving of fast long-distant traveling and communication would destroy cultural identities of a country. For example, fast airplanes bring more foreigners to a region or a country for cross-border meetings and tours. In order to meet the needs and tastes of these new comers, local old buildings are replaced by modern skyscrapers, and traditional cuisines are replaced by western fast food like McDonald. What is more, advertisements and videos of a pop culture on the Internet, from Hollywood movies to rock music, from Paris fashions to online games, draw all attention of the public in any local area. In other words, under the influence of the Internet which plays a role of cultural invader, people will lose the interests and respects in their local culture.

In conclusion, adverse consequences of a fast-paced world are undeniable, including an unbalanced lifestyle, environmental problems caused by airplanes and telecommunication, and the disappearance of a local culture.

It is common to see that the time of keeping the light on is extended in many business skyscrapers, and the overtime work has become the routine of young people’s night life replacing hanging out with friends or lying on the couch to enjoy personal life. However, when considering the enormous amount of work, they have to sacrifice free time and give up the rest to guarantee that all things can be done on time, due to the huge pressure of earning money to support their life and the desire of promotion in the career, which are essential for pursuing a better life and showing the determination of providing individual value. 雅思大作文:parents give their children everything that their children ask for

Some parents give their children everything that their children ask for or they want to do. Is this good for children? What could be consequences for these children when they grow up?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Raising a child is the life goal for most newly-weds; following is the real challenge how they can provide an appropriate way of education, which has been a fierce discussion around the society.

It is undeniable that the good wish of all the parents is to devote everything they have to guarantee that the youth can live in plenty, ranging from emotion and finance. The love and capital invested indeed are the necessity to be the sufficient support the children to be mature and grow up in a caring environment, and it is also regarded as much a factor as could they learn how to love. However, the fact is that the extent of care is hard to control in most families where the younger generation are spoiled or manipulated; driven by the motivation, the parental love, gradually, becomes the excessive permission to satisfy whatever children want; as a result, under such circumstance, the spoiled offspring are the “little emperor ” at home, cultivating some impolite behavior, especially lacking the respect of the elders.

Unfortunately, the negative impact can be enlarged when they growing. The most significant is that this group of spoiled children who lose the sense of responsibility and moral regulation tend to commit more crimes, because of the low tolerance of criticism or different opinions; or on the contrary, another feature of well-loved children is the ignorance of the outside world, and they believe that everything comes naturally, so that they cannot understand the tears and sweat behind the satisfaction of material, or look after themselves without the surrounding of the family members, not even mentioning to live independently.

In conclusion, although the love for the babies is the most valuable and beautiful thing for everyone, which can be totally acceptable, parents need to have a long-distance sight to notice the development of characters while providing a favorable environment.

雅思大作文:it is important for all children to learn history

Some people think it is important for all children to learn history in school. Others believe that other subjects are more relevant to children’s lives today. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

In the contemporary society, the public’s sight focus on the future development, while history has been a mystery area which people can find only in the museum; as a result, there is a suggestion that all the schoolchildren should learn history as a compulsory course, but the influence brought by other subjects cannot be ignored.

Undeniably, although it seems that history is far from people’s life, especially for the young generation who have limited understanding of the meaning of history, it helps us identify who we are and where we are from, which is regarded as the root in many traditional cultures. Besides, history always contains a variety of knowledge, ranging from literature to science; as long as the children start and have access to history, they could gain the sense of appreciating the wisdom of the ancestors and cultivate the interest in certain academic fields, benefiting for the future development.

On the other hand, shaping these offspring to be the talents for a country cannot only rely on the humane study; science and other practical skills would be more effective to explore their potential and train the critical thinking. By taking the personality into consideration among such generation, it is acceptable that the significance of current curriculum is to connect the content with the reality, since the advent of high technology plays an influential role, and to work in the relative industries would be the prime option while making decision of career.

In conclusion, the advantages of these two kinds of subjects are not overwhelming, which means that the combination of all the development could create the most efficient blue print in educating the descendants to be outstanding in both academic performance and personal identity.
